Hebrews And The Name the Son Inherited

The Son Has Inherited a Name

Hebrews 1:4 tells us that he has inherited a name and it is superior to the name of angels.

When Did He Inherit His Name?

Hebrews 1:3, When he had, by himself, made purification for our sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Father on high.

He purified our sins when he was crucified.

  • 1 Cor. 15:3, … Christ died for our sins…;

  • Gal 1:4, [He] gave himself for our sins…;

  • 1 Pet. 2:24, [He] bore our sins in his body on the tree… by whose stripes you were healed…

    Heb. 9:16-17,

    For where a last will and testament is, there must of necessity be the death of him who made it. 17 For a will is in force where there has been death, for it is never in force while he who made it lives.

What Name Does He Inherit?

Hebrews 1:5

For to which of the angels did he say at any time, "You are my Son, Today have I become your father?" and again, "I will be to him a Father, And he will be to me a Son?"

The name he inherits is “The Son of God.”
Romans 1:3-4

concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, 4 who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

What’s the message?

The author of the letter to the Hebrews is establishing our confession-

Jesus IS The Son of God with Power… by [His] resurrection from the dead
